James Stokes, 27, of Cresco, was a front-seat passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the collision, which occurred around 2:40 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Exit 80 (Route 743/Grantville/Hershey) in East Hanover Township, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Crash Details

The crash began when a vehicle traveling in the right lane struck the rear of another vehicle, causing the first vehicle to jackknife, state police said in a release. A third vehicle then collided with the second vehicle, pushing the third vehicle into the left lane, where it was struck by a fourth vehicle that caught fire.

The drivers of the second and third vehicles were transported to Hershey Medical Center for evaluation, police said. Stokes, who was riding in the third vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency responders from several agencies, including Troop L CARS Unit, Troop L Forensic Services Unit, Life Lion EMS, South Central EMS, PennDOT, and the Lebanon County Coroner's Office, assisted at the scene.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crash or dashcam footage to contact PSP Jonestown at 717-865-2194.
